Photo by Bet Zimmerman The Nature Conservancy to this local land trust, the parcel is its first acquisition. Part of the Great Cedar Swamp, the land is a critical area for wildlife habitat and rare native plant species. This property is diverse, with a mix of hard and softwoods as well as wetlands.  As part of a white cedar swamp, it sustains wildlife such as fisher, gray fox, bobcat and bear.

The New Roxbury Land Trust President Valerie J. Ietto commented: “This land acquisition is a very significant one for us and will become even more so as development continues to encroach upon our open space. If not protected, these natural habitats could eventually disappear.”
